Enlightenment Quote #1
An age cannot bind itself and ordain to put the succeeding one into such a condition that it cannot extend its (at best very occasional) knowledge , purify itself of errors, and progress in general enlightenment. That would be a crime against human nature, the proper destination of which lies precisely in this progress and the descendants would be fully justified in rejecting those decrees as having been made in an unwarranted and malicious manner.
Immanuel Kant
The touchstone of everything that can be concluded as a law for a people lies in the question whether the people could have imposed such a law on itself.Enlightenment Quote #2
An apology can be a wonderful thing so long as it is infrequent and from the heart. However, beware of the person who justifies bad behavior with apologies. For them it is a means to an end, and quite often at your expense.
Gary HopkinsEnlightenment Quote #3
An educated man believing in a this-that vile sky-god rewarding him-her, but punishing your enemies with hell and fire, is uneducated.
Fakeer IshavardasEnlightenment Quote #4
An enlightened man had but one duty - to seek the way to himself, to reach inner certainty, to grope his way forward, no matter where it led.
Hermann HesseEnlightenment Quote #5
An enlightened person doesn't ask anyone to believe in anything. They simply point the way and leave it to people to realize it for themselves.
SunGazing.comEnlightenment Quote #6
An enlightened person raises the level of the consciousness of the entire community.
Phyllis TherouxEnlightenment Quote #7
An enlightened thinker does not waste his precious time thinking about what others think of what he thinks.
Mokokoma MokhonoanaEnlightenment Quote #8
An individual's perception is their reality colored in the shades they desire--not necessarily the color that it is.
Terry A. O'NealEnlightenment Quote #9
And also, to encompass the madness within, let us reach forth our minds.
Rae La RaeEnlightenment Quote #10
And I envy you. You have the one thing that matters. You have all your discoveries before you.
John FowlesEnlightenment Quote #11
And Kelsea wondered suddenly whether humanity ever actually changed. Did people grow and learn at all as the centuries past? Or was humanity merely like the tide, enlightenment advancing and then retreating as circumstances shifted? The most defining characteristic of the species might be lapse.
Erika JohansenEnlightenment Quote #12
And what is enlightenment anyway but delusions we can live with?
Jeanette WintersonEnlightenment Quote #13
Angry obsessive thoughts about another weaken your state of mind and well being. If you must have revenge, then take it by choosing to be happy and let them go forever.
Gary HopkinsEnlightenment Quote #14
Answer the Call to Shine Your Light
Raphael Zernoff
Right now there may be just few individuals who balance duality in unconditional love, but their unifying perception is very integrative. They live their lives in “Trinity” after they have expanded their understanding of “Duality”. There is no moral value judgment applied in their perceptions. The moral value judgment continually creates an illusion of separation and disconnection. A balanced consciousness, with no dual perception is very integrative and all inclusive. It expands at an enormous speed assisting others to perceive a myriad of different perspectives as different yet equally valid.
Those individuals shine their light in the world as a sign of unity, harmony, and emotional balance. They are living witnesses to the reality of love, compassion, ease and joy. By their example others can choose to understand that life can be easy to live in one's preferred way without devaluing others' choices.
They are those who lightened up carrying their bright match lit in a darkened room filled with fear and drama.Enlightenment Quote #15
Anything that appears and disappears cannot actually be you because it is being observed by you. By removing the attention from these things and noticing what remains, you are left only with what is permanent — the truth of who you are.
Enza VitaEnlightenment Quote #16
Anything worth having doesn’t come easy' is a perception of negativity perpetuated by misery looking for company. Accept nothing but the opposite of this intention and soon your life will navigate away from perpetual negative thinking and outcomes to the endless positive quality of life that exists for all of us
Gary HopkinsEnlightenment Quote #17
As a convinced atheist, I ought to agree with Voltaire that Judaism is not just one more religion, but in its way the root of religious evil. Without the stern, joyless rabbis and their 613 dour prohibitions, we might have avoided the whole nightmare of the Old Testament, and the brutal, crude wrenching of that into prophecy-derived Christianity, and the later plagiarism and mutation of Judaism and Christianity into the various rival forms of Islam. Much of the time, I do concur with Voltaire, but not without acknowledging that Judaism is dialectical. There is, after all, a specifically Jewish version of the eighteenth-century Enlightenment, with a specifically Jewish name—the Haskalah—for itself. The term derives from the word for 'mind' or 'intellect,' and it is naturally associated with ethics rather than rituals, life rather than prohibitions, and assimilation over 'exile' or 'return.' It's everlastingly linked to the name of the great German teacher Moses Mendelssohn, one of those conspicuous Jewish hunchbacks who so upset and embarrassed Isaiah Berlin. (The other way to upset or embarrass Berlin, I found, was to mention that he himself was a cousin of Menachem Schneerson, the 'messianic' Lubavitcher rebbe.) However, even pre-enlightenment Judaism forces its adherents to study and think, it reluctantly teaches them what others think, and it may even teach them how to think also.
Christopher HitchensEnlightenment Quote #18
As in music, when we hear the crescendo building, suddenly if the music stops, we begin to hear the silence as part of the music.
Chögyam TrungpaEnlightenment Quote #19
As in the days of the first Merovingian, who pledged allegiance to the cross because of a victorious battle, today's children of the banalized Enlightenment are likewise meant to burn what they worshipped and worship what they burned.
Peter SloterdijkEnlightenment Quote #20
As much as we look up at the stars and know there is more than life on earth, the divinity of dogs is just as unexplainable and profound. They may be the purest example of divine love in an earthly soul many of us ever experience. If we take their lead, open our hearts, and embrace their love, we may just find our own journey a lot more enlightening.
Jennifer SkiffEnlightenment Quote #21
As the wine matures in the wine bottle so doth the minds of men and woman through experience
Bradley ElisEnlightenment Quote #22
As you embrace Consciousness, you embrace Perfection.
Tony SamaraEnlightenment Quote #23
At last the bottom fell out.
John Gould
No more water in the pail.
No more moon in the water.Enlightenment Quote #24
At the moment of enlightenment, everything is dropped—body, mind, all states, all things—everything. At that moment, there is no separate entity that can become enlightened, because there is no I that can experience it.
Enza VitaEnlightenment Quote #25
At the same time, we may not as a culture be fond of old-fashioned supernaturalism, but we certainly like spirituality in whatever form we can get it. I suspect that if anyone other than Jesus (Krishna, say, or Buddha) were suddenly put forward as being due for a second coming, millions in our postsecular society would embrace such a thing uncritically, leaving Enlightenment rationalism huffing and puffing in the rear. We are a puzzled and confused generation, embracing any and every kind of nonrationalism that may offer us a spiritual shot in the arm while lapsing back into rationalism (in particular, the old modernist critiques) whenever we want to keep traditional or orthodox Christianity at bay.
N.T. WrightEnlightenment Quote #26
Attaining bliss can take lifetimes, or one can simply choose to experience it in their deepest dreams. Sleep well my friend, as dreams are vehicles that can quickly take you to the awareness that you call Nirvana
Gary HopkinsEnlightenment Quote #27
Awakening involves mind training. Step back and pay attention to the thoughts that come into awareness. Feel your desire for healing. Preferences are judgments, and as the mind yields to the nonjudgmental Perspective of the Holy Spirit, the Awakening is obvious. Observe that as long as appetites seem to exist there are the ego defenses of indulgence and repression. Neither is better or worse than the other, for they are the same illusion. The miracle offers a real alternative and when one is consistently miracle-minded, defenses are no longer needed.
David HoffmeisterEnlightenment Quote #28
Awareness is that which is reading these words right now, whatever “that” is. You know without a doubt that there is something reading these words right now and awareness is precisely what that is.
Enza VitaEnlightenment Quote #29
BE the light you already are.
Sheri BessiEnlightenment Quote #30
Be the radiator of peace. Go to the center of your inner being. Radiate peace in every direction.
